Frequently asked questions

Is this image converter free?

Yes. The converter is free to use in your browser and does not require an account.

Are my images uploaded?

The converter processes the selected image in your browser; it does not upload the image to PixelKit servers. Keep this page open until your download is complete. The site may still load standard third-party services such as analytics.

Can I convert HEIC photos?

HEIC support depends on your browser and is not guaranteed. For the most reliable results, convert the photo to JPG or PNG first.

Why can a converted image be larger?

Some formats are already highly compressed. Changing format, quality, or dimensions can make a file larger or smaller depending on the original image.

A simple guide to converting, compressing and resizing images

PixelKit brings everyday image tasks together in one browser-based workspace. Choose an image, select an output format, adjust its quality or dimensions, and download the result. You do not need to install desktop software or create an account to use the converter.

Which image format should you choose?

WebP is a practical choice for many website images because it can produce smaller files while retaining good visual quality. JPG is widely supported and works well for photographs, but it does not preserve transparency. PNG is useful for graphics, screenshots and images that need transparent areas, although its files can be larger. The best format depends on the image and where you plan to use it.

How to compress an image to a target size in KB

Select your image and choose WebP or JPG for adjustable quality. You can select a preset such as 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB, or enter a custom target. PixelKit first tries to reduce quality and may gradually reduce the image dimensions if needed. Some images cannot reach every requested size without substantial quality loss, so the tool reports when it has found the closest result instead of guaranteeing an exact file size.

Resize an image while keeping its proportions

Enter a new width or height in pixels and leave the other dimension blank to calculate it automatically. Keep the aspect-ratio option enabled to avoid stretching the image. If you enter both dimensions while keeping the ratio, the image is fitted within the requested bounds.

Are images uploaded when using the converter?

The converter uses your browser's image and canvas features to process the selected file locally; the image is not uploaded to PixelKit's server by this tool. PixelKit may load standard third-party website services, such as analytics. The separate AI Background Remover may download its processing library and model files when first used.

Tips for better results

Keep an original copy before replacing or deleting an image. Use JPG or WebP when reducing the size of photographs, and use PNG when transparency is important. Preview the downloaded result before using it in a document, website, profile, or online application. If a format will not open, try a standard JPG, PNG or WebP file.
